BTEC Results Day at the East London Institute of Technology

Over 300 students received their BTEC results at the East London Institute of Technology (East London IoT) yesterday. The BBC and Sky News were at the college to chat to students and see the fantastic facilities, including the Idris Elba Film and TV studio and esports arena.

The East London IoT is part of a new national network of regional partnerships between local colleges, universities, and leading employers across England, created to ensure the technical skills and knowledge needed to overcome the biggest challenges communities face are accessible to all. IoTs provide training in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) based occupations.

East London IoT students received their results yesterday, safe in the knowledge that they’ve chosen STEM qualifications that will lead them into careers in booming industries.

Amongst those celebrating their results were:

Nineteen-year-old Keytrin Gyumova, who achieved a D*D*D* for her BTEC in Creative Media Practice (Games Art & Animation) added: “Wow! I can’t describe how I’m feeling. I put so much effort into getting the grades I needed, and now I have!” Keytrin is now headed for Bournemouth University to study Graphic Design.

Jasmine Mustafa, 19, from Dagenham also did well, achieving a D*DD for her media BTEC. She would like to work her way up in the media industry, perhaps becoming a location marshal. Commenting on her results she said: “I’m very proud of my results.”

Brave BTEC Media student, Demar Bellamy-Foster, 21 from Ilford opened his results live on air as part of a Sky TV broadcast. Happily, he received merits for his BTEC. Demar has had the opportunity to get some brilliant work experience as part of his media BTEC at the East London Institute of Technology, part of Barking & Dagenham College, including working with crews on Amazon, Apple and Netflix productions. Demar said that he’s loved his time at college and is now looking to go into the world of in film and TV production.

Hollie Young, 18, from Chadwell Heath, received a D*DD for her BTEC in Photography. She said: “I feel so good about my results, and excited about the future.” Hollie is currently doing some freelance photography work and plans to continue her studies onto a Level 4 course.

BTEC Games Art & Animation student, Anita Ededjo-Joseph, 18, from Dagenham achieved a D*D*D*. Anita said: “I feel exhilarated! It’s great knowing my hard work has paid off.” Anita has benefitted from both high-quality facilities and training and from real paid work experience organised by her college. Last year, Anita got paid work experience by creating her own animation for a project commissioned by Pearson. Anita will now be going to Staffordshire University to study Games Design on a four-year degree with one year work experience as she wants to go into games art or games design.

Alex Reece, 18, from Dagenham, who today achieved a D*D*D for his Esports BTEC. Alex was one of the first cohort to complete the BTEC Esports extended diploma which was a new course that began two years ago.

Chief Operating Officer at the East London Institute of Technology, Jason Turton said: “It’s been a great day, our students have done really well. They should be very proud of themselves.”
