College Key Facts

Each year, we produce a College Key Facts booklet, which provides a useful overview of the main facts and figures relating to colleges in England. It contains information on students numbers in education, on apprenticeships and higher education as well as statistics on curriculum and quality, inclusion, sport, mental health, international, staff and finance. For the last two years, we have also produced nine supplementary regional college key factsheets.

AoC College Key Facts 2025/26:

  • There are 213 colleges in England
  • Colleges prepare over 1.6 million students with valuable skills
  • 88% of colleges were judged good or outstanding for overall effectiveness at their most recent Ofsted inspection.
  • Colleges employ 133,000 people of whom 54,000 are teaching staff
  • The total college income in England is £7.8 billion
