Representation
AoC supports college governors’ and governance professionals' representative councils in their work to develop excellence in governance.
AoC believes that governors should be empowered to have a strong voice so they can champion and promote their colleges, and also recognises the crucial role that governance professionals play in supporting and advising governors.
In 2008, AoC established its Governors’ Council to speak on behalf of governors and provide a forum for discussion with partner organisations. AoC supports the National Governance Professionals' Group (NGPG) in its work to represent the views of governance professionals and influence college governance.
In November 2013 AoC published Creating Excellence in College Governance, the result of four months' research and consultation across the further education sector. Following publication, the Education and Training Foundation (ETF) provided funding to support the establishment of a wide-ranging programme to develop and improve governance. This programme was managed by AoC’s Governance Team.
In November 2014 AoC published Demonstrating Excellence in College Governance, introduced by Roger Morris OBE, which describes progress in the work of the Governors’ Council and AoC’s Governance Team.
