Digital Insight Hubs

About the programme

Digital inequality remains a significant challenge across the FE sector. Differences in access to technology, staff digital skills, and learner experiences create gaps that impact educational outcomes.

The Digital Insight Hub pilot programme aims to reduce these disparities by fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing. By showcasing effective practices, mentoring peers, and hosting events, Insight Hubs are helping ensure that all colleges can benefit from innovative approaches and digital transformation.

The three colleges that were selected as the pilot hubs, through a highly competitive application process are:

  • Basingstoke College of Technology
  • Heart of Yorkshire Education Group
  • South Staffordshire College.

Digital Insight Days

Each Digital Insight Hub will host an in-person Digital Insight Day. These events allow colleges to understand the journey each Hub has been on through digital transformation and the development of a strong digital culture, including honest reflections on successes and challenges faced along the way. There will be plenty of opportunities to share and ask questions. Attendees will gain transferable ideas to help them on their own college's digital transformation journey.

An Insight Day should give visiting colleges a meaningful, hands‑on understanding of the host college’s digital approaches. The content will be engaging, transparent, and designed to help others adapt or replicate what works.

The details of the individual events, and how to book, are below:

  • Basingstoke College of Technology – Wednesday 18 March
  • South Staffordshire College (Rodbaston College) - Friday 24 April
  • Heart of Yorkshire Education Group (Wakefield College) – Tuesday 28 April.

Online Insight Sessions

In addition to the Insight Days, each hub will host a shorter online session, sharing information and best practice. The dates for these will be announced soon.

Mentoring

By providing opportunities for peer mentoring, nine colleges will be able to access one-to-one support, from the Digital Insight Hubs. Between March and June, they will have two meetings with a mentor to discuss challenges and identify some initial actions to support their digital transformation journey.

More information on how to register for mentoring will be added to this webpage soon.

This pilot programme is part of a strategic partnership between the AoC and Ufi VocTech Trust (Ufi). It builds on the findings of our recent report, Digital baseline: exploring the use of technology in FE. If successful, the Digital Insight Hubs programme will expand during phase three of the partnership, from September 2026.
