AoC responds to annual Skills for Care report

29 July 2025

Marguerite Hogg, Senior Policy Manager, Adult Education, Association of Colleges said:

“The latest Skills for Care report shows encouraging signs of progress in reducing vacancy rates across the adult social care sector. However, the continued decline in domestic recruitment underlines the urgent need to invest in long-term workforce development.

“Colleges have a vital role to play in this effort. Through our involvement in the Adult Social Care Workforce Strategy for England, particularly in the ‘attract and retain’ and ‘train’ strands, we are working closely with Skills for Care, government, and sector partners to build a more resilient and skilled workforce.

“Many of the strategy’s recommendations are already being implemented, and AoC will continue to support this momentum. By showcasing the rewarding and impactful nature of careers in adult social care, we can inspire more young people and adults to pursue qualifications and bolster the sector.

“To meet the projected demand for nearly half a million additional posts by 2040, we must ensure that training pathways are accessible, well-funded, and aligned with employer needs. Colleges stand ready to deliver this, but we need continued collaboration and investment to make it happen.”
