- Shirley Collier MBE
Shirley Collier MBE
Shirley believes that an independent review is an opportunity for reflection and deep thinking which both builds governor confidence and drives up engagement. She has carried out ten reviews for FE colleges, most recent clients being MidKent College, Queen Alexandra College, Plumpton College and New College Durham. The breadth of her experience reviewing different types of provision including land-based and specialist, as well as her experience as a Chair and a governor ensures that she can focus on the aspects of governance that most matter to a college intent on closing attainment gaps and driving ambition for all. When carrying out reviews, Shirley builds strong relationships with governance professionals and Chairs, as well as working constructively with executive teams.
A former public sector CEO and seasoned FE governor, Shirley was appointed a National Leader for Governance in 2018. She has extensive experience of team building within college boards, having been a committee chair, and Chair of Governors (York College 2014-2020). Awarded the MBE for services to Further Education in the 2021 New Year’s Honours List, Shirley is currently a governor with the RNN Group.
