AoC welcomes the first ever National Numeracy Day

Today marks the UK’s first ever National Numeracy Day. In response, Catherine Sezen, Senior Policy Manager at the Association of Colleges, said: “Improving everyone's numeracy or every day maths skills is one of those things that makes people more productive at work and will help grow the economy in the long term. “Employers are looking for employees to have good basic numeracy. A good standard of numeracy is important to help young people achieve success, whether they continue their studies or move into the workplace. Colleges are asked to deliver maths qualifications, such as GCSE which are not directly related to life and work. A greater focus on numeracy would make much more sense for both employers and students.’’
