Research Further

The Research Further initiative was established collaboratively by Association of Colleges and NCFE to support, drive and encourage college-centred research that can help influence policy and practice.

In this first year of the programme, successful FE practitioners will be funded to undertake post-graduate research in an area where evidence is currently lacking. They will be supported through this programme by the Research Further team, and be able to rely on the guidance of the advisory board. Scholars will be part of a supportive community of peers, and throughout their scholarship, will share findings from their research through online articles and in a webinar series, hosted by AoC and partners NCFE.

To support, drive and encourage more high-quality FE-centred research that can influence policy, implementation and practice, Research Further will annually commission FE practitioners to undertake a sponsored Masters level programme, PhD or equivalent. The format of the programme will be decided by the advisory board at the start of the project. Both part time and full time projects will be considered. Applications are now open and will close on 26 November 2021.

The work carried out by the scholar will be disseminated through a webinar series hosted by AoC and NCFE, and new knowledge on pedagogy or policy will be shared with the sector through think-pieces, reports, articles and blogs.

The Research Further initiative's work is supported by a high calibre advisory board, consisting of representatives from government, awarding organisations, funders, and sector leaders from across the UK. The board advises on research themes and the selection of scholars that will be supported.
