Supporting Colleges in Discussing War, Conflict and Community Impact

Dear colleagues,

We know that colleges are increasingly looking for guidance on how to support students and staff during the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and in response to wider global events. To help you navigate these conversations with confidence, we have worked in partnership with the British Red Cross to host an online Equity Exchange specifically for the FE sector.

This session will provide:

  • Practical tools you can use in-house with staff and students
  • Guidance on facilitating safe, respectful and balanced discussions around war and global conflict
  • Strategies for maintaining both moral clarity and institutional neutrality
  • Considerations around safeguarding, communication, governance oversight, student voice and risk management

At moments like this, colleges play a vital role in ensuring that every student and colleague feels safe, respected and able to learn and work without fear. This includes being clear that all forms of hate & discrimination have no place in our institutions, while also safeguarding lawful freedom of expression and creating space for respectful dialogue handled with care and professionalism.
