Further Education and Skills Connect (FES Connect) is a national community for Post 16 careers leaders and practitioners, supporting development and sharing of best practice to ensure every learner is supported to find their next best step.

This hot topics series will be run by the Careers and Enterprise Company in partnership with AoC. Seminars will include specialist guest speakers, breakout sessions to discuss hot topics and opportunities to share best practice.

This session has passed. Hot topic one - New Compass Questions
Tuesday 25 November 2025, 10am - 11am

This session explores the latest updates to Compass questions used by colleges to evaluate careers provision against the Gatsby Benchmarks. This session will explore key changes and how they support continuous improvement in careers education. focusing on their purpose and application.

Hot topic two - Ofsted and Modern Work Experience
Tuesday 17 March 2026, 9:30am - 11am

Join us for a focused double‑session exploring key updates in careers provision and evolving work experience models.

We’ll begin with Emma Woods, Senior His Majesty’s Inspector at Ofsted, who will share an overview of careers within the renewed framework, followed by a chance to put your questions directly to Ofsted.

In the second half, we’ll look at emerging approaches to work experience, recent developments across further education, and insights from Equalex. South Devon College will also discuss their practical experiences, challenges, and opportunities for future practice.

Hot topic three - Showcase of Beacon Award Winners 2026
Tuesday 16 June 2026, 10am - 11am

Celebrating excellence in careers education, this session showcases the 2026 Beacon Award winners. Colleges present their innovative and impactful work, offering inspiration and practical ideas for wider adoption.
