Our Work

Youth Social Action

AoC engaged with the Pears Foundation to embedding a sustainable approach to YSA in colleges. This project is in its third year of activities. Students engage with their communities to understand the local challenges and what they could do to provide support through their own local projects. These projects include promoting healthy eating, setting up a community allotment, pamper sessions for the homeless and creating a garden for a nursing home. Students taking part in these projects broadened their personal networks within the college and externally and gained important employability skills and in some cases, work experience.

This Girl Can

AoC collaborated with Sport England to raise awareness of the Sport England This Girl Can  campaign and recruit female ambassadors within colleges. This initiative promotes and inspires females in colleges to participate in sport and physical activity, breaking down barriers to participation and tackle the inequalities in levels of exercise between different social groups of women

Award for Education for sustainable Development

Education for sustainable development gives students the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes to create a more sustainable and just society. This is awarded to colleges that have incorporated sustainable development into their teaching and operations, including issues of Climate Change, Biodiversity, sustainable consumption and production and disaster risk reduction. Learning about these issues will empower students to change their behaviour and shape their future society.
