Pay strategy in further education

19th June 2019

This research was identified as a priority for the sector by AoC officers, college regional HR networks, feedback via our employment helpline and from AoC’s employment committee. The research intends to provide colleges with a valuable resource to support the development of strategies which link pay to organisational performance and to improve outstanding services for students and communities. This research does not intend to provide colleges with a ‘how to’ guidance document but instead serves to illustrate how colleges are responding to local challenges via appropriate pay strategies linked to overall college success. The findings of the research have been split into three parts; A contextual overview of the sector and its current challenges with remuneration, this includes comparative public sector approaches to pay and remuneration. Five college case studies which illustrate the varying practices within the sector in approaches to pay strategy. A summary of best practice, and key features to support the development of pay strategy in further education.
