Education Select Committee rejects Ofsted appointment

In response to the Education Select Committee rejecting the appointment of Amanda Spielman as Ofsted Chief Inspector, Martin Doel, Chief Executive of the Association of Colleges, said: “It will be interesting to see what happens next. We were reassured by Ms Spielman’s comments on further education when she appeared before the Education Select Committee last week to answer questions on her suitability for the role. “While there may have been concerns that she has never been a teacher, we have had a series of chief inspectors at Ofsted who had little or no experience of further education. In this context, Ms Spielman’s lack of detailed knowledge did not seem problematic.”
