Student immigration rules

14th December 2017

The Home Secretary Amber Rudd has announced that student immigration rules should be 'tailored' to the quality of the course and the institution offering it. Responding to the announcement, Julian Gravatt, Assistant Chief Executive of the Association of Colleges (AoC), said: "Colleges have educated international students ‎for decades and around 160 are licenced to sponsor students and take their work as sponsors extremely seriously with robust and effective systems to monitor student attendance and performance. International activity in colleges contributes to UK exports and helps the sector widen the horizons of its home students. The Home Office already use Ofsted ratings to decide college eligibility and quality measures. International students are interested in the quality of the particular course or department they enrol in, so it is good that the Home Secretary mentions this aspect as well. AoC will work with officials on the details."
