AoC Ofsted College and Skills Nominee Masterclasses Summer 2024

This mini series is made up of two separate masterclasses - there is a crossover in content so we recommend you only attend one of the sessions

This event is for senior leaders who will be taking the role of college nominee for a full college inspection.
During this event, Steven Tucker will go through the nominee’s role before, during and after an inspection. He will cover topics such as:
- The process of inspection – what the lead inspector will expect of you and your colleagues
- The steps that a nominee can take to ensure their colleagues are prepared for an inspection
- How the handbook for inspection can help a nominee maintain a focus when preparing for an inspection
- The arrangements nominees should make to ensure the inspection runs smoothly
- How to work effectively with inspectors and college staff during the inspection
- Pinch points and challenges that a nominee faces during an inspection, and how to deal with them
Attendees will have time to discuss the points Steven raises and discuss ‘hot topics’.

This is event is for senior leaders who will be taking the role of skills nominee during a full college inspection.
During this event, Steven Tucker will go through the role of the skills nominee’s before and during an inspection. He will cover topics such as:
- The skills aspect of an enhanced inspection – how it works
- The steps the skills nominee can take to ensure colleagues, employers and stakeholders are prepared for an inspection
- The arrangements a skills nominee needs to make to ensure the inspection runs smoothly
- The relationship between the skills aspect of an inspection and the ‘main’ inspection
- How to work effectively with inspectors and college staff during the inspection
- How the handbook for inspection can help a nominee maintain a focus when preparing for an inspection
- Working effectively with the college nominee, inspectors, and college staff during the inspection.
Attendees will have time to discuss the points Steven raises and discuss ‘hot topics’.
Each session costs £55+VAT per person for member college delegates and £85+VAT per person for non-members.
NB, these sessions are a repeat of the January and March series.
Steven spent 9 years as one of Her/His Majesty's Inspector and 18 years as a teacher and leader in an FE college. While working for Ofsted, Steven held positions as the national lead for FE curriculum and national lead for 16 to 19 study programmes. He was lead researcher/author of Ofsted’s influential report into apprenticeships - ‘Apprenticeships: developing skills for future prosperity' (2015). For 3 years he led the training of all Ofsted inspectors and HMI in the FE and sector, including training them to implement the Education Inspection Framework in 2019. Before this, Steven was a senior leader in further education and taught performing arts.
Steven now works on quality improvement and leadership projects with colleges, universities and training providers. He also researches, writes about and provides training on ‘curriculum thinking in FE’ and ‘getting observations right’.
