- AoC Ofsted for Governors Masterclass 2024
AoC Ofsted for Governors Masterclass 2024
Venue:
Online via Zoom
Date: 5 June 2024
Time: 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM
Fee: £55 +VAT for AoC members
This new masterclass is a 2-hour online training event designed for college governors in which you will learn about:
- The impact of governance on the judgements inspectors make during an inspection
- The role of governors during an inspection
The session, led by Steven Tucker, will consist of a series of presentations, discussions and the opportunity to ask questions.
The aims of the session are:
- To inform governors about how the quality of governance at their college will be evaluated during an inspection
- To give governors an overview of how they might be involved in an inspection
- To provide governors with an opportunity to consider their responses to common questions that governors are asked during an inspection
Topics covered include:
- The Education Inspection Framework, current themes in Ofsted and enhanced inspections
- The inspection of leadership and management and the discussions senior leaders will have with inspectors about governance
- The meetings governors may be asked to attend using breakout groups to discuss evidence governors may be able to provide for some key themes, reinforcing the role governors have in ensuring their work has an impact on learners.
The session costs £55+VAT per person for member college delegates and £85+VAT per person for non-members.
Steven spent 9 years as one of Her/His Majesty's Inspector and 18 years as a teacher and leader in an FE college. While working for Ofsted, Steven held positions as the national lead for FE curriculum and national lead for 16 to 19 study programmes. He was lead researcher/author of Ofsted’s influential report into apprenticeships - ‘Apprenticeships: developing skills for future prosperity' (2015). For 3 years he led the training of all Ofsted inspectors and HMI in the FE and sector, including training them to implement the Education Inspection Framework in 2019. Before this, Steven was a senior leader in further education and taught performing arts.
Steven now works on quality improvement and leadership projects with colleges, universities and training providers. He also researches, writes about and provides training on ‘curriculum thinking in FE’ and ‘getting observations right’.
