Stephen King is Chair of New College Durham, the largest college in the North East of England – a growing, high-performing institution with an Outstanding financial health rating and Ofsted Good status, including Outstanding features. As one of the youngest FE College Chairs in the UK, Stephen brings a dynamic, forward-thinking approach to governance and leadership in the sector.

With over 20 years of senior leadership experience Stephen is a trusted partner to boards and executive teams navigating change, growth and challenge. He is an experienced governance and board transformation specialist, helping organisations improve effectiveness, strategy, and culture – all grounded in purpose, accountability and impact.

Stephen is a qualified Company Director (Institute of Directors), holds a Chairs and Leadership qualification from King’s College London, and is an accredited Business Mentor and member of the Association of Business Mentors. His practical, values-led approach supports better boards, stronger leadership, and more resilient organisations.
