Hilary Barnard

Hilary Barnard’s governance practice has focused as much on good governance as compliance, enabling effective Board culture and leadership to flourish.

He has carried out over 70 governance reviews, almost all for charities or educational institutions. His governance review process offers formative opportunities for the organisations he consults for, working with the grain of the organisation and its ambitions. His reports unravel complexity and offer accessible, practical recommendations that Boards and senior leadership can implement.

Hilary set up his independent consultancy in 1991. As a consultant, he has worked in all four UK nations with some international work. He is a former Senior Visiting Fellow at Cass (now Bayes) Business School and is a Chartered Fellow of the CIPD.

He is co-author of Strategies for Success (NCVO Publications), of Improving Equality and Diversity (ACEVO), and of Successful Museum Governance (AIM).
