Organisation: Lakes College

Location: Workington

Closing Date: 16 Oct 2026

We are delighted to be working with Lakes College to recruit their next Director of Governance and Data Protection Officer.

This is an exciting time to join the College and play a pivotal role in supporting the Board of Governors through an important period of change and development. As an independent and trusted adviser to the Chair and Board, you will provide expert guidance on statutory, constitutional, procedural and ethical matters, ensuring governance arrangements support the College’s strategic ambitions.

You will provide leadership, advice and support across governance, statutory and regulatory compliance and external governance relations. Working closely with governors and the executive team, you will support the Board in evaluating its effectiveness, training and development, while keeping members informed of sector developments, emerging guidance and relevant legislation.

The successful candidate will bring the credibility, judgement and influence to build strong relationships at Board and executive level, engage effectively with external stakeholders, including colleagues at the Department for Education, and ensure the Board remains accountable to its internal and external stakeholders.

You will have the opportunity to make a significant contribution to the College’s strategic development, with an ambition to establish Lakes College as an exemplar of best practice in corporate governance. The role also carries responsibility for the College’s data protection function, with the Director of Governance undertaking the duties of Data Protection Officer.

If you believe that you have the drive, vision, skills, expertise, and enthusiasm to make a difference and help us realise our ambitions, we want to hear from you.
