Four outstanding students win Student of the Year Awards

Four students have secured national awards for fantastic work at their respective colleges and local communities at the AoC Student of the Year Awards which took place in Birmingham. The winners and the runners up for AoC’s prestigious Student of the Year Awards have been announced tonight (Tuesday 19 November) at the annual Awards Dinner during Annual Conference in Birmingham. Young Student of the Year Winner: Billy Gibbons, South Essex College Runners-up: Sibgha Amin, Stoke on Trent College and Macy Sheil, Trafford College Apprentice of the Year Winner: Tia Whelan, Leicester College Runners-up: Lauren Polson, London South East Colleges and Luke Leech, Bournemouth & Poole College Adult Student of the Year Winner: Ryan Kimber, The Isle of Wight College Runners-up: Roxanne Willoughby, The Northern College and Malcolm Thwala, Hugh Baird College Higher Education Student of the Year Winner: Benjie Kusita, Bradford College Runners-up: Matthew Chilvers, Loughborough College and Henry Green, Weston College Steve Frampton, President of the Association of Colleges, said: “Each year the level of applications is extremely high, and it goes to show the fantastic work that students are doing in colleges as well as the lengths colleges go to support their students. They have done amazingly well to win and should rightly be proud of their achievements.” The awards were announced on Tuesday 19 November at an evening of celebration at the Association of Colleges’ Annual Conference, showcasing some of the ways that colleges are transforming the lives of more than two million people across England and how vital colleges are to the future of the British economy in the 21st century.
