Erasmus+ EXPECT Project shares climate action best practice

14 September 2021

Since AoC joined the Erasmus+ EXPECT project - Exchanges in practices for education for climate targets, partners have met three times and discussed the situation in three countries – the Netherlands, Austria and Spain. Due to the current travel restrictions, all these meetings were held online.

The project's objective is to exchange and stocktake good practices in order to learn from other countries, to report on the lessons learnt at several relevant stakeholders and to lay the foundation for a later and more comprehensive follow up project.

The first Peer Learning Activity (PLA) took place on 2 December 2020, in the Netherlands and analysed the Dutch educational system. It looked at the role Vocational Education and Training (VET) plays in the National Climate Agreement and the importance of VET in achieving its aims. There were several examples provided from education leaders on how these have been implemented in practice to reach climate targets.

The second PLA happened on 12 January 2021 in Austria, this time how the VET system in Austria plays a unique role in Austrian policy towards 2030. Examples of projects highlighted were, Climate Alliance Austria, and a representative from ECOLOG, and how it’s vision, culture of learning and network work in practice.

The most recent PLA, hosted by partners in Spain, gave an overview of the Basque VET system and the role on municipalities in climate targets. With a presentation of practical examples from a school raising awareness of the environment and sustainability to their students.

You can read more about each PLA meeting in the latest newsletter available to download below.

The next PLA is due to take place face to face in November 2021, in the UK.
