Lexie celebrates T Level distinction and university place

Blackpool and The Fylde College student Lexie Carr is celebrating after achieving a Distinction in her Early Years T Level – and securing her next step towards becoming a primary school teacher. 

Lexie 19, from Poulton, will now head to Liverpool John Moores University to study primary education, something she says has “always wanted to do” since she was at school. 

Her achievement is particularly special after she initially completed a Pre-T Level at B&FC to build her skills before progressing onto the full course. 

Lexie admitted that taking the extra year was “disappointing” at first but added: “It was definitely the right thing to do, and it helped me so much. It gave me the confidence on my T Level and I ended up with a Distinction which is just brilliant.”  

The practical nature of the T Level also suited Lexie, who had previously found exams difficult. She completed her placement at St Hilda’s in Poulton and said the combination of coursework, practical experience and support from college helped build her confidence. 

She said: “I got extra time and a smaller room, which I think helped. One of my tutors was very supportive of me – every time I needed help with something, I went to her.” 

Outside college, Lexie is also involved with Girl Guiding and has worked as a young leader with Rainbows, helping her develop communication and leadership skills which she can take into her future career. 

Her advice to Year 11 students considering a T Level is simple: “Definitely do it and don’t be discouraged if you need the Pre-T Level first. You won't regret it. It’s the best thing I’ve done”
