Hard work pays off for Nottingham College A level students

Nottingham College students joined thousands of young people across the country today (13 August) as they received their long-awaited A level results, marking the culmination of months of dedication and hard work. 

For many students, the day represents the start of an exciting new chapter, with plans to progress to university, higher-level study, apprenticeships and employment. 

A mix of nerves, excitement and celebration filled Nottingham College's dedicated High Pavement Sixth Form centre on Chaucer Street as hundreds of students gathered to open their results and share the moment with friends, family and staff. 

The college is celebrating another year of success, with learners securing places at universities across the UK, including the prestigious University of Cambridge, University of Liverpool, University of Exeter, University of Sheffield, University of Manchester, University of Edinburgh and the University of Nottingham, among many others. 

Among those celebrating was Lyan Nassar, 17, who is heading off to the prestigious University of Cambridge to study Medicine. She achieved an impressive two A*s in Maths and Chemistry and two A grades in Biology and Physics. 

She said: "I'm absolutely over the moon with my results and excited to be progressing to the University of Cambridge to study Medicine. It always felt like an unbelievable goal, and I never thought it was something I could achieve. The support I've received from my family, friends and teachers at Nottingham College has been incredible, and I'm so grateful for everything they've done to help me get here." 

Congratulations also go to Lloyd Berry, 20, who achieved three A*s in Psychology, Politics, and History. He is progressing to Queen’s University Belfast to study History and Politics. 

He said: “Achieving three A*s means a lot to me. There were times when balancing my studies with anxiety and depression was challenging, but I worked hard to stay on track and never gave up. The support I've received, along with the friendships I've made at college, has been invaluable, and I'm excited to be taking the next step at university." 

Seren Hall, 18, Achieved A, A, B in Economics, Media and Business and will be continuing her studies at Nottingham Trent University to study a Degree Apprenticeship in Digital Marketing.  

She said: "I was very nervous before collecting my results, but I couldn't be happier. I've worked incredibly hard throughout my A levels and had to balance my studies with around 14 degree apprenticeship applications, so achieving these grades has made me really proud. My time at Nottingham College has given me amazing opportunities, and I'm excited to start my Digital Marketing degree apprenticeship." 

High Pavement Assistant Principal, Mandi Chandler, joined staff throughout the day in celebrating students' achievements and supporting them as they considered their next steps. 

She said: "It's a privilege to celebrate alongside our students and see the outcomes of the hard work, determination and resilience they've shown throughout their studies. 

"We are incredibly proud of what they have achieved, not just in their exam results, but in the personal growth, confidence and ambition they have developed during their time with us. Whether they're progressing to university or another course at college, starting an apprenticeship or moving into employment, they leave us with bright futures ahead of them. 

"I'd also like to thank our dedicated team, whose unwavering support and commitment have helped our students reach this important milestone. We wish every student the very best as they begin the next exciting stage of their journey."
