From T Level success to filmmaking degree

Finlay Lyons-Provan from Blackpool and The Fylde College is off to university after celebrating an outstanding result in his Content Creation and Production T Level.

Now the 19-year-old student is a step closer to turning his passion for film into a career.

He achieved a Distinction and will take the next exciting step towards his dream of becoming a film editor, when he starts a filmmaking degree in September.

“I’m very proud of what I’ve been able to accomplish,” Finlay said. “I have low self-esteem and the college really helped me with my confidence. They were so supportive during my exams and helped me calm down.”

The Barking Bakery took Finlay on a 24-week placement, where he helped with social media, used Canva to design graphics and carousel clips and took product photos for Amazon.

Michelle Turnbull, Founder of The Barking Bakery, said she would definitely take on more T Level placement students, having worked with Finlay.

“Manufacturing is a fantastic job! It’s exciting to run a factory, there’s so much to learn. The youth of today need to get out, they need to know how to communicate in an environment around other people so it’s great for them to get involved with that - it’s a real-world experience.

“When Finlay came he had challenges but he came to our meetings, he was very conscientious and aware of timings for projects. He was always eager to finish a challenge. We loved having him.”
