Bracknell Art students create a Dragon’s egg for The Lexicon’s art trail

Art and Design students from Bracknell and Wokingham College have designed and made a dragon’s egg for an art trail at their local shopping centre, The Lexicon.

The Dragon Trail, on display at The Lexicon during August, features five animatronic dragons, a LEGO dragon and giant dragon eggs for visitors to spot in shop windows.

The 10 unique eggs have been created by schools and colleges within the borough of Bracknell Forest, in association with local arts company, Daler-Rowney.

Students studying the Creative Practice: Art, Design and Communication Level 3 Diploma at Bracknell and Wokingham College worked together to design and create a Sea Dragon’s egg.  

The egg, called Azure, features iridescent pink, purple, blue and gold colours. The students used modelling material, Modroc, to create the 3D elements. They also used card which they overlayed with tissue paper to create different elements and textures.

Emily Aguiar De Abreu, 17, from Finchampstead in Wokingham, and Jay Page, 18, from Bracknell, both worked on the egg. They are both studying a Creative Practice: Art, Design and Communication Level 3 Diploma at Bracknell and Wokingham College.

Jay said: “Emily and I were working on the ear part, which is a big textured siren ear. We had to do it twice to get it right. On our second attempt, we used a piece of card and layered tissue paper over it in a specific design to give it a flowy texture.

“It helped us to practise 3D modelling, which we had only done once before.”  

Emily said: “Working on the Dragon Trail project was fun and helped us to improve our social and teamworking skills.”

Sue Dew-Gosling, Creative Arts Lecturer at Activate Learning, said: “Students working on live projects within the community is an invaluable example of work experience.  

“It boosts their confidence and helps them to develop a range of professional skills, which will prepare them for Higher Education or work.”
