AoC Sport coronavirus update - 12.11.20

12th November 2020

The DfE has today (12 November) released some updated Autumn Term guidance for colleges to be read alongside the National Restrictions guidance released last week. Whilst current national lockdown measures prevent competition between colleges, there is good news for college students who will be able to benefit from competitive sport once the current national lockdown is over. The guidance reaffirms that sport and physical activity as part of education and training can continue during the current national lockdown. It is our interpretation that under the National Restrictions guidance, staff-led training and enrichment activities can continue as they are part of a college student’s education as long as they are COVID secure, that team sports are on the approved list and colleges do not undermine the mitigation measures they already have in place. Once out of the current national lockdown, the updated Autumn Term DfE FE guidance released today states that “organised extra-curricular activities and competitive team sports conducted in line with COVID secure guidance, may continue, subject to any national or local restrictions” and so we look forward to AoC Sport competitions starting in January.
