Director of Marketing and Communications
Salary: c.£65,000
Organisation: Bournemouth and Poole College
Location: Bournemouth and Poole
Closing Date: 01 Nov 2026
The first half of this decade has been a period of exceptional momentum at Bournemouth and Poole College, and we are inspired by our future opportunities for success and impact. Our mission is bold yet grounded: to move from strength to distinction and become truly exceptional in the education and skills we provide. We have had circa 30% growth in 16–18 year old student numbers since 2021, with increased market share, and our aspiration is to be recognised nationally for sector-leading quality, innovation and impact. We are ambitious to add to our numerous awards and accolades, ensuring we have the highest profile on the national stage.
Innovation sits at the heart of our offer, reflected in our unique, celebrated provision including our Specialised Chef Apprenticeship and pioneering marine programmes, and we recently won the “Best New Apprenticeship Programme” category at the National Apprenticeship and Training Awards. This has been achieved through working with our well-established partners, which range from local stakeholders to nationally recognised brands at the forefront of their industries.
Our ambition is underpinned by strength and stability. The college has maintained at least ‘Good’ financial health, with £60m of investment between 2022 and 2026, transforming facilities across our three sites. This year has seen the opening of the Compass Building, a flagship, high-tech teaching environment forming the centrepiece of our renewed Bournemouth Campus, and we are soon to embark on an exciting redevelopment of our Poole campus.
Against this exciting backdrop, we are seeking a forward-looking Director of Marketing and Communications, who will lead and harness the strengths of a talented team and add value by working collaboratively across the college. The new post holder will lead strategically on marketing and PR, positioning the college at the forefront of the external landscape and ensuring that we are viewed as a first-choice destination for students and staff. There is ample opportunity to innovate and bring new ideas, along with a plethora of developments at the college to celebrate and signpost. You will also lead on internal and external communications, ensuring staff are fully engaged and stakeholders recognise the college’s success and impact.
Our successful candidate will be an inspiring, values-driven leader who is keen to make a difference and take an already successful brand even further forwards. You should have robust experience in marketing and / or communications, including in-depth knowledge of marketing theories, along with a belief in the transformational power of education in order to position the college in the most powerful way. Flexible, proactive and energetic, you should have the ability to influence a wide range of external stakeholders, inspire our executive team with new ways of thinking and gain maximum buy-in from your team. We are happy to consider candidates seeking a step upwards in their career, as long as you are keen to take on new challenges and effectively develop yourself and those around you.
