FA Stepping Over The Sidelines

Inspiring the Next Generation of Football Leaders

Newham Sixth Form work with London County FA to create an opportunity for their students to 'Step over the Sidelines' and to develop student workforce

FA Stepping Over the Sidelines is a nationally recognised workshop that introduces students to the world of football coaching, with space to explore wider roles such as leadership, officiating and club involvement. Ware supporting the delivery of this programme within the ECFA Accredited College network to support students in taking their first or next steps into the football coaching workforce.

While the session is primarily focused on helping students build awareness and confidence around coaching, it can also include insight into other pathways depending on the interests and aspirations of the group.

What the Workshop Involves

  • A tailored in-person coach development session delivered at your college
  • Delivered by a member of the FA Coach Development workforce, which we will support you to source in collaboration with your County FA
  • Includes both a theory and practical section, giving students a chance to learn and apply key coaching principles
  • Recognised as an FA Accredited CPD workshop, contributing to a student’s formal CPD hours
  • Open to groups of around 15 to 30 students

Why Get Involved

  • Gives students a recognised introduction to coaching and volunteering in football
  • Supports personal development and creates links to real-world opportunities through your County FA and community clubs

Support Available

  • Support funding may be available to help students take their next steps after the workshop
    This could include coaching courses, travel, CPD or incentives to stay engaged
  • We will help each college collaborate with their County FA to identify a suitable deliverer

What We Ask from Colleges

  • Host the workshop at a suitable time within the student calendar
  • Ensure a minimum of 15 engaged students take part
  • Use the available support to help students access coaching or volunteering opportunities
  • Complete a short monitoring and evaluation form after the workshop and again at the end of the academic year
