Volleyball
Volleyball is an exciting, inclusive and accessible sport that can be enjoyed by students of all abilities. Whether you're looking to introduce recreational sessions, develop student leaders or compete at a higher level, Volleyball England offers a range of opportunities to help colleges grow their volleyball provision.
Volleyball England is the recognised National Governing Body for volleyball, beach volleyball and sitting volleyball in England and is responsible for delivery, development and promotion of the three disciplines.
It was founded in 1972 as the English Volleyball Association, replacing the Amateur Volleyball Association of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, which itself was established in 1955.
They run the National Volleyball League, the top volleyball competition in England for clubs, support England national team athletes to compete internationally, and grow and develop the game by working closely with their network of clubs. They also organise national sitting volleyball competitions. UKBT is a national partner for beach volleyball competitions in England.
AoC Sport colleges can access free affiliation with Volleyball England for the 2026/27 season, providing a fantastic opportunity to start or expand volleyball activity on campus

Entering into Volleyball England competitions will require a separate affiliation. These are the following competitions available to you:
- U18 National Junior Competitions
- Student Cup
- Sitting Volleyball Grand Prix

Volleyball England is pleased to announce that The Sitting Grand Prix is returning for another year. Entries are now open and the competition is open to all teams, men’s women’s and mixed as well as all age groups and abilities.
The Sitting Grand Prix has been running since the 2009-2010 season and has seen the best club sides battle it out once a month during each season.
The tournament will run between October 2026 - February 2027 and will be held at Loughborough University. The dates are as below:
- GP1 4th October 2026
- GP2 1st November 2026
- GP3 6th December 2026
- GP4 10th January 2027
- GP5 31st January 2027
- Final 4 GP6 28th February 2027
Venue
Loughborough University is the home of all Volleyball England competitions with all sitting competition taking place in New Victory Hall. Loughborough is one of the best sporting venues in the country and it is great to be part of their rich history.
The competitions are open to everyone with registration available through the VolleyZone portal whether you want to enter just one grand prix or the whole season.
Costs
- Cost per team: £97 for affiliated teams with Volleyball England
- £596 if you wish to sign up for the whole season
Format
The seedings will be determined by the final standings from the previous event/season.
The format for Each grand Prix is determined by the number of teams entering the specific event. After each grand prix during the season points are gained for an overall leaderboard. With the top 4 teams going head-to-head at the last date of the season with the top 2 teams progressing to the Sitting Volleyball Grand Prix final held at the national cup finals in April.
The entry deadline is 2 weeks before each GP so the deadline for the 1st one is the 18th September.
