The FE Youth Collective first meet up!
29th November 2022
AoC and AoC Sport recognise the need to do more when it comes to listening to learners across FE. The FE Youth Collective has been formed to regularly convene with a group of FE learners to help AoC and AoC Sport understand what it feels like to be a young person in education right now.
Earlier this year, colleges were given the opportunity to nominate students to be a part of the group, and from those nominated a group of 12 has been selected.
On Monday 21 November 2022, 12 students from 11 different colleges travelled to St George's Park to come together for the first meeting. This meeting was about convening as a group, getting to know each other, and starting to lay out the key topics and issues impacting them and their peers right now. The day started off with a group activity of an escape room, then moved on to being asked the question 'What are the biggest challenges facing young people in college/ further education right now?', where everyone had the opportunity to talk about themselves, their interests and life at their college.
The day was a great starting point to get a better understanding of the true reflections on what it is like being a student and young person in the current climate. We are looking forward to working with the group over a couple of months and seeing the continued development.
