Talented players pick up AoC Sport National Netball awards

23 April 2020

The season may have been cut short due to the coronavirus but that hasn’t lessened the achievements of the AoC Sport National Netball team players and coaches. We are delighted to announce the end of season awards and congratulate every player for their contribution to a successful year. The criteria for the coaches’ players of the year are a reliable, consistent, dedicated player who works hard in sessions and gives everything on court. She is a player who has excellent game sense, works well and supports their team mates on and off the court. The players’ players are voted for by their peers and is someone who inspires others around them, who performs every game and who works hard in training.

The final weekend was in Fareham where the 1st team enjoyed a decent win against a very good Surrey Storm U21 squad. 2nd team captain Zoe Moseley said: “I would like to say a massive thank you to all the coaches – Julie, Emily and Alisha (pictured below), not only delivering such amazing quality coaching but also putting up with us rowdy lot and joining in with the fun and just making the experience 10 times better. “I’m really proud of all the girls for their maturity in coming together and playing so well. It’s often difficult when you don’t know the people you’re playing with but the girls did so well and won nearly all their games.”

'Talented group'

Head Coach Julie Kimber said: “It’s been another amazing season, even though it has been cut short due to the coronavirus. We have had an extremely talented group of players this year who have all worked very well together on and off the court and have improved every single weekend. “The weekends have been hard work with training and match play but all 21 players have stepped up and given their all. Thank you to the players and the coaches for their hard work this year.” Full member colleges are encouraged to nominate players in the autumn term who they consider to be of an appropriate standard for national representation. More details about the criteria and process will be released nearer the time.
