AoC Sport coronavirus update - 24.2.21

24th February 2021

The government’s announcement earlier this week detailing the roadmap out of lockdown was very welcome. We, like everyone, are very excited to be able to return to playing sport and to be physically active in groups again soon. We are in touch with DfE, NGBs and other agencies to determine exactly what this means for colleges from 8 March onwards. We will, of course, be providing further information on the implications of the government guidance on college sport and enrichment programmes as soon as possible.

It’s great news that competitive non-elite sport will be returning from 29 March. Now we have this clarity around the number of playing weeks potentially available for the rest of the academic year (post Easter), we are in the process of establishing what our outdoor team sports fixture programmes will look like.

We are consulting stakeholders, but we continue to be optimistic that college teams in some outdoor team sports will be able to play in local fixture programmes should they wish to do so. We are also liaising with relevant partners to establish the position on indoor sports. Again, we will communicate further on this as soon as possible.
