Guidance notes for application form

This year, applicants must complete a specific application form for each Beacon Award. The form allows you to address both the Beacon Award criteria and the additional sponsor criteria for the award.

This Terms & Conditions section must be completed and signed by the applicant (i.e. college staff member with college email address who will complete the application form and be the main correspondence contact regarding the application outcomes)

Total word limit: Please ensure the total responses for the three sections of Innovation, Impact and Inclusion do not exceed 3,000 words.

Section A: Innovation

Consider one or more of the following: • Continuous innovation: regular improvement of delivery/outcomes • Adjacent innovation: adapting existing approaches for new learners or settings • Radical innovation: major breakthroughs in delivery or impact

• How your ESOL programme uses new or effective teaching, learning and support approaches including technology, to maximise and/or accelerate learners’ English language development • How your embedded ESOL support in vocational/academic courses uses new or effective adaptive teaching and support approaches to maximise or accelerate English language development to support access to vocational or academic learning? • How it promotes independent learning beyond the classroom and/or in the community • How it focuses on real-world, useful language that allows learners to access vocational/academic learning, progress onto further/higher education, access the jobs market in accordance with their goals, ambitions and local priorities and be an active member of their community. • How culturally inclusive and sensitive teaching methods promote learners’ multilingual and multicultural identities, including home/preferred language maintenance. • How it encourages learners to connect with British values and local community needs. • How you are adapting the initiative/project to different student needs, levels, and backgrounds

Section B: Impact

Evaluate the impact of your initiative by providing data and other evidence. Please ensure that if your application relates to a specific initiative that the evidence relates to it directly.

Section C: Inclusion

Tell us how your initiative stands out regarding inclusive ethos and practices.

You may consider: • How it removes barriers for underrepresented or priority groups •How culturally responsive and inclusive approaches are embedded • How it aligns with public sector equality duties •How it fosters environments where all learners feel they belong

  • Applicants must submit a high-resolution college logo online as part of their application form.
  • The confirmation email following submission will be sent to the applicant email only – this is an automated process.
