Eduard Cristea - Barnsley College

Eduard Cristea is an exceptionally dedicated and selfless student whose achievements combine personal resilience, student leadership and community impact. Having battled leukaemia since the age of three and having life-saving surgery far away from his home country, Eduard has used his own experience to support others, raising nearly £1,000 for Blood Cancer UK through creative fundraising and awareness activity. His motivation is deeply personal, but his impact reaches across the college and wider community. As Activities and Welfare Officer on the Students’ Union Executive Committee, Eduard has worked to strengthen student voice and welfare. He created a student wish wall, produces a termly newsletter and actively supports events including Holocaust Memorial Day, VE Day, Alcohol Awareness Week, Together at the Town Hall and BeMoreFest fundraising. He also reaches out to students who may need support and helps connect them with staff. Eduard’s leadership extends beyond Barnsley College. He has built links with Leeds College, Sheffield Hallam University and Northern College, represents Barnsley College on the AoC Leadership Programme, and has joined Barnsley Youth Voice Council. His nomination reflects a student who has turned personal challenge into compassion, service and meaningful action for others.

Daniel Holland - Chelmsford College

Daniel has distinguished himself as an outstanding student leader through his role as a Student Governor, where he has played a pivotal part in representing the student voice and shaping the strategic direction of the college. His influence has extended beyond internal governance, with national recognition as a shortlisted candidate for Student Governor of the Year - an achievement that places him among the very best student representatives across the country. What makes Daniel particularly remarkable is the way he has embraced every opportunity to contribute positively to the wider college and community environment. He has actively engaged in high-level events, including national conferences and community forums, confidently articulating the perspectives of his peers and contributing to meaningful discussions about the future of education and local partnerships. His maturity, professionalism, and ability to communicate with stakeholders at all levels set him apart.

Dorothea Davies - Burnley College

Dorothea Davies is an exceptional young person who combines academic brilliance, creative talent, and entrepreneurial leadership to positively influence social change regionally, nationally and internationally. At the heart of her achievements lies her unwavering principles: to bring joy and equity to others. She consistently uses her talents and resources to dismantle barriers for those less advantaged, whether through education, access to training, or inclusive community events. From founding Game to Gain, a non-profit providing affordable tutoring for the 11+ entrance exam to over 300 learners in her local area, to collaborating with Bacup Swimming Club to launch a junior lifeguard programme that promotes water safety, Dorothea is an inspirational community leader. Further afield, Dorothea has served as the North England Representative for UN Girls and Politics, represented East Lancashire at the World Scout Jamboree in Korea, and is currently a member of the Future Leaders UK programme. She is also a recipient of the Safran Sustainability Award for her commitment to sustainability and climate innovation. Dorothea’s journey truly embodies the qualities this award seeks to recognise: compassion, unwavering determination and resilience.

James Stefanaras - Havant and South Downs College (HSDC)

James began his journey at Havant and South Downs College (HSDC) in 2023 as a Level 2 Commis Chef apprentice, initially struggling with self-doubt. As college staff demonstrated their genuine belief in his abilities, he completely transformed his outlook, and advanced to a Level 3 Chef De Partie position. James used this position to reach others and demonstrate his commitment to kindness and humanity, always participating in every initiative that the college or employer put his way. During a life-changing internship in India, James accelerated his culinary development, progressing from baseline pastry skills to crafting advanced custom orders at a professional bakery in Delhi. His exceptional talent earned him specialised training at a chocolate academy and a spot representing the team at Asia's largest hospitality fair. Inspired by his Greek heritage, James has recently launched his own commercial chocolate bonbon line called The Chian Standard, incorporating Mastic, a unique tree resin that is only found in Chios, the Greek Island where James grew up. Alongside his culinary success, James served with dedication as an HSDC Student Governor, bravely championing inclusivity, and student wellbeing initiatives. Now preparing for his end-point assessment, James stands as an inspiring student leader whose journey proves that technical apprenticeships can completely reshape a young person's career, purpose, self-belief and ambition.

Katie Cherry - Barnsley College

Katie Cherry has turned creativity, resilience and compassion into outstanding community impact. After leaving university and taking time to focus on her mental health, Katie rebuilt her confidence through work and independent content creation, growing her own book review platforms to more than 10,000 followers. Since beginning her Level 3 Content Creator Apprenticeship with Age UK Barnsley in May 2025, while studying with Barnsley College, she has transformed the charity’s digital engagement. Katie has helped grow Age UK Barnsley’s Facebook content from 12,300 views and 213 interactions to more than 72,200 views and 1,300 interactions, while VINTAge UK Barnsley grew from 31,700 views and 419 interactions to 84,900 views and 892 interactions. She also launched Instagram and TikTok channels, with TikTok reaching 1,292 followers and more than 122,700 likes. Her video with Raymond, a 96-year-old service user, reached more than 140,000 views and led to BBC Breakfast coverage, raising awareness of loneliness among older people. Katie has also supported fundraising, community events, student placements and fashion sustainability work with VINTAge UK, making her an outstanding advocate for apprenticeships and community storytelling.

Corey Richardson - RNN Group

Corey is an outstanding bricklaying apprentice whose achievements demonstrate the transformative impact of apprenticeships and exceptional personal determination. Working within a small, family-run business, he has overcome disparities in resources in comparison to large national organisations, to become a double national champion, winning both the National Junior Bricklaying Competition and the Senior Guild of Bricklayers title in consecutive years. He was also the first student from his college in nearly 50 years to win the junior national title. Alongside his competition success, Corey maintains exemplary attendance, professionalism and consistently produces work of outstanding quality. He actively supports peers, shares expertise and contributes to a positive learning environment. Through his work in a local, family run SME, he also supports the wider community by delivering high-quality construction services that improve local homes and infrastructure, building strong relationships with customers. Corey inspires fellow apprentices across a region with many SMEs, proving that national excellence can be achieved regardless of employer size. His journey from developing apprentice to nationally recognised craftsman reflects remarkable distance travelled, resilience and commitment to excellence.

Alero Megbele - Kirklees College

Alero Megbele is a truly outstanding student, whose contribution to both the college and local community is unparalleled. Her commitment to her studies in Creative Media has earnt her a clean sweep of distinction grades, and her commitment to taking on extra work experience is above and beyond what is expected of any student. Coming to the UK from Nigeria as a teenager, Alero started her college journey later than her peers, needing extra time to settle into college life, but she has seized every opportunity available to make an impact in the college community. In her roles as SU Vice President and Student Governor, Alero advocates for all Kirklees College students, both young people and adults, with a maturity and integrity beyond her years. She has taken on extra advocacy roles within the local community, currently working as Youth Academy and Training Lead for Creative Ideation Hub, where she is responsible for youth ambassador leadership, programme development. She has also played a crucial role in Leaders Unlocked's Student Commission on Racial Justice, completed a summer school internship programme with her local MP, and undertaken multiple work experience placements whilst balancing her college studies.

Beheshta Bakhtari - United Colleges Group

Beheshta Bakhtari is Student Union President at United Colleges Group – studying Level 3: BTEC National Extended Diploma in Business at City of Westminster College – and she has transformed the student union into a highly active, student-led organisation that creates opportunities, strengthens communities and delivers measurable impact for students. Serving a student population of more than 4,000 learners, Beheshta has led initiatives spanning entrepreneurship, employability, sustainability, wellbeing and civic engagement. Under her leadership, the student union has delivered major events including cultural day, the Chinese New Year Festival and Enterprise Week, while supporting 25 student entrepreneurs and engaging more than 1,500 students across 12 events. She has developed partnerships with local authorities, charities, businesses and higher education institutions to expand opportunities for students. Most recently, she helped coordinate the Westminster Citizens Assembly, securing commitments from organisations including Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, King’s College London and ZSL London Zoo to provide work experience, progression support and future collaboration opportunities. Beheshta has also championed environmental initiatives, including community gardens, alongside fundraising activities that support women’s self-defence classes, first aid training and student wellbeing programmes. Her leadership demonstrates how student voice can drive meaningful change and has created a lasting impact on both her college and the wider Westminster community.

Jonathan Wiltshire - Derwen College

Jonathan Wiltshire is a student whose confidence has grown into action. As an autistic young adult with learning and communication difficulties, he has worked hard to find his voice – and now uses it to speak up for others at Derwen College and beyond. Now in his second year as Student Council President, Jonathan helps turn student ideas into real change, from safer roads and improved accessibility to social opportunities in the community. He is also Green Rep, a sports leader and a student voice ambassador, representing young people with SEND at national events and sharing what helps them to achieve and thrive. Jonathan’s main pathway is Retail and Enterprise, where he applies his learning through real work experience and his own Vinted micro business. Alongside this, he supports peers in accommodation, encourages others through sport and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, and has become the only current student to complete all levels of travel training, enabling him to travel independently by train from Shropshire to Hampshire. He has achieved sports leadership awards and captains the college football team. Practical, thoughtful and determined, Jonathan shows other students what is possible when they are supported to take on new challenges and believe in themselves.

Bernice Bradley - Boston College

Bernice has spent much of her life putting others first. A carer for her mother for 30 years, she faced significant hardship from a young age, leaving school at 16-years-old to work and study catering. While living in Germany, a series of family tragedies – including the deaths of both brothers and her stepfather – led her to return to the UK to support her mother. After raising her daughter as a single parent and caring for her mother, Bernice finally pursued her lifelong passion for photography through an evening class. Her talent was quickly recognised, leading her to enrol on a foundation degree and later a BA (Hons) in Creative Arts (Photography) at age 56. Despite balancing study, work, and caring responsibilities, she is on track to achieve a First. Bernice is an inspiring student, lecturer, mentor, and community contributor. She has supported college events, local organisations, Lincolnshire Police, and student motorsport, while also developing a successful photography business. Known for her positivity and compassion, she has organised exhibitions, mentored students and young photographers, and embraced innovative projects. Her photography has gained national recognition, featuring in leading publications (Digital Camera Magazine, Amateur Photographer, MotorSport Magazine). Bernice’s resilience, generosity, and achievements make her an exceptional role-model and ambassador for lifelong learning.

Sarah Warwick - Heart of Worcestershire College

Sarah is a high-functioning autistic student whose late diagnosis meant she experienced school feeling misunderstood and endured significant bullying, impacting both her mental health and education. These challenges have shaped her strong commitment to advocating for children and young people, particularly those whose voices are often unheard. Since joining the foundation degree in Early Years in 2024, Sarah has excelled academically while emerging as a natural leader, becoming a course representative and later Student Governor across two campuses. Alongside her studies, she has gained valuable practical experience working with children with complex needs, completing specialist training to support their health and wellbeing. Her advocacy extends beyond college through her involvement with the Midlands Young Advisors Team, where she has delivered training and spoken at conferences. Notably, she led a workshop on autism in girls at University of Worcester' Student Conference, highlighting issues around masking and underdiagnosis. Sarah inspires others through her compassion, determination, and proactive support for children with additional needs, demonstrated during placements where she implemented effective strategies to reduce anxiety and promote inclusion. Despite the heightened demands autism places on daily interactions, she consistently challenges herself and others, demonstrating that neurodiversity is a strength and a powerful driver for positive change.

Rachael Speers - Basingstoke College of Technology

Rachael’s progression through the foundation degree in Children’s Development and Learning exemplifies a significant journey of both academic and personal growth. Initially, Rachael faced challenges in adjusting to the demands of higher education; she was initially hesitant toward new theories, avoided extensive academic reading, and found it difficult to accept constructive feedback on her assignments. However, through perseverance and a growth mindset, she committed herself to thorough research and effective time management, which resulted in her achieving consistent distinctions, elevating her performance from basic passes. What truly distinguishes this academic development is the context in which it occurred. Rachael earned these top marks while working full-time at a special educational needs school, managing her own complex health conditions, and caring for children with additional needs. She balanced these demanding responsibilities without compromising her academic standards. Rachael’s resilience and ability to translate her university learning into practical applications in her work with vulnerable children earned her the college’s Higher Education Student of the Year Award. She serves as an inspiring example of how personal challenges can be transformed into academic and professional achievement.

 Nisha Latif - Christ the King Sixth Form College

Nisha is an Early Years student at Christ the King Sixth Forms who has demonstrated outstanding leadership and commitment to environmental sustainability through her role as an environmental ambassador. As part of the college's sustainability programme, she helped develop and deliver environmental education workshops to key stage 1 and 2 pupils across primary schools in Lewisham and Bexley. Using environmental storybooks, interactive performances, songs, and creative activities made from recycled materials, Nisha has inspired younger children to learn about biodiversity, wildlife, and sustainable living. Her engaging approach has helped make environmental issues accessible and enjoyable for young learners while encouraging positive attitudes towards protecting the natural world. Through this work, Nisha has developed strong communication, leadership, and teamwork skills while making a meaningful contribution to her local community. She has represented Christ the King with professionalism and enthusiasm, helping to strengthen relationships with local schools and support the college's commitment to sustainability. Nisha's contribution forms part of a wider environmental outreach programme that received recognition through the OVO Nature Prize Community Engagement Award. Her dedication, creativity, and passion for environmental education have made her a positive role model for both her peers and the younger children she supports.

Ben Burke - Barnsley College

Ben Burke’s nomination recognises a student leader who has made sustainability, digital responsibility and e-waste relevant to his peers. As Students’ Union Sustainability Officer and a Software Development T Level student, Ben is proud to study at a college that takes sustainability seriously, but recognised that not all students fully understood or appreciated that work. He set out to change this through practical, engaging student-led activity. Ben’s main focus has been digital sustainability, AI and e-waste. His E-Waste Aware event, supported by the Head of Sustainability and students’ union, used displays, competitions, facts, figures and collected e-waste to start conversations about technology and responsible disposal. One creative exhibit used an old USB telephone linked to a David Attenborough documentary, encouraging passersby to interact with the display. Ben has also contacted external employers including CeX and Currys, spoken at Sustainability Committee meetings, challenged staff professionally and presented to Student Recruitment on the morning of a mock exam. Most significantly, he surveyed students about AI and digital sustainability, producing a report for the Director of AI Integration that will influence college policy. Ben has turned concern into confident, responsible leadership.
