Jack began his journey with Singer Instruments as a BTEC placement student, quickly impressing the team with his initiative, passion, and technical ability. He returned as the company’s first-ever Level 6 engineering apprentice and has since made a transformative impact both on the business and its approach to innovation.
Jack has championed 3D printing technologies to reduce environmental impact, streamline production, and cut costs. His redesign of microscope components eliminated hazardous chemicals, while another project introduced a new specialist 3D printer that paid for itself in a single production run. Jack also upskilled colleagues to ensure knowledge-sharing and resilience across teams. He has led complex engineering projects, including a novel drive system and design consolidation work that significantly improved manufacturing efficiency. Jack’s strong communication skills and collaborative approach have earned him deep respect across departments.
Jack applies his academic learning directly to real-world engineering challenges, bridging the gap between education and industry. His success has helped shape Singer Instruments’ apprenticeship programme and inspired other young learners to pursue vocational pathways. Awarded Apprentice of the Year (Somerset Business Awards) and Student of the Year (WEIoT), Jack is not only excelling; he is setting a new standard for what apprenticeships can achieve.
