AQA Project Excellence Award

The AQA Project Excellence awards have now closed and applications

  • Shortlisted students will be announced on 4 October on AoC social media.
  • Finalist students will be announced on 19 October during Colleges Week on AoC social media.
  • Finalist students will be invited to attend the AoC Conference dinner on evening of 14 November where Winners and Runners Up will be announced there and on AoC social media
  • Winners will be invited to attend an awards celebration event in London in Spring 2024.

Aim

The AQA and AoC Project Excellence Award celebrates the most interesting, exciting and inspirational student research projects from Higher and Extended Project Qualifications.

Project Qualifications are often transformational for young people, nurturing their knowledge and skills, and kindling a passion for lifelong learning. The award aims to recognise, reward and highlight the fantastic range of research and artefacts produced and the skills developed by students. The award is exam board neutral and open to AoC member colleges.

Projects will be recognised not for their grade but for their originality, innovation, approach to research and potential to be of wider social benefit.

Shortlisted students and finalists will be publicly recognised. Finalists will be announced during Colleges Week and invited to the AoC conference, with the winner announced at the Awards Dinner. The winner and their project will be publicised and celebrated by AQA, by AoC and across the college sector.

We particularly welcome submissions of HPQs, projects which produced artefacts or from those who undertook them alongside vocational or technical qualifications.

Rules:

1. Entries must be from students enrolled at an AoC member college, entered for an EPQ or HPQ in November 2022 or summer 2023 and must be approved by the student and their college.

2. The submission must be a completed EPQ or HPQ (research based written report or artefact with accompanying research based written report) which has been submitted to and awarded by a relevant examination board.

3. Each submission for the Award must be one PDF document that includes (in the following order):

  • A fully complete Project Excellence Award entry form
        • A fully complete production log (AQA) / project proposal form and activity log (Edexcel) / project progression record (OCR) / extended project file form (WJEC/eduqas)
        • The project product (i.e. research based written report or evidence of artefact with accompanying research based written report) Any relevant supporting additional evidence / appendices

          4. The total number of projects submitted by a single college can be: For colleges with 20 or fewer candidates:

          • up to 4 entries. For colleges with over 20 candidates:
          • up to 20% of total entries.
