COMMENT: Right 2 Learn campaign launch

09 December 2020

Responding to the launch of a new campaign, Right 2 Learn, which calls for new statutory ‘right to learn’ for everyone throughout their lifetime, Professor Ewart Keep, Commissioner, Independent Commission on the College of the Future, and Co-Director of SKOPE and Emeritus Professor in the Department of Education, University of Oxford said:

“A Right to Learn has to be the foundation of a fair and impactful post-16 education and skills system, now and in the future. Lifelong learning is central to helping people and businesses rebound from the pandemic, and as we look to 2030 even more people will need to upskill and retrain. For too long, too many people have not had the opportunity or resources to re-enter education. A fundamental shift in policy and investment in education and skills is needed so that everyone who needs it can access the training they need.

“The Independent Commission on the College of the Future made a right to lifelong learning central to our vision for colleges in 2030. We know that as well as individuals being better supported to learn, we need strong and sustainable colleges that are better supported to deliver it in every community too.”
