- DfE Multiply Capability Support Programme
DfE Multiply Capability Support Programme
Update as of May 2026
The Multiply programme has demonstrated strong success in engaging adults and building confidence in numeracy. Its focus on accessible, flexible provision - grounded in local partnerships and engagement - proved effective in reaching learners and supporting meaningful progression.
The reports on the Adult Numeracy Randomised Controlled Trials help build the evidence on what works in supporting adult learners and also provide important practical insights into designing and delivering robust evaluation in real-world adult education settings.
Together, these reports provide clear and practical insights for Strategic Authorities, local areas, and providers seeking to maximise the impact of investment in adult learning in an increasingly devolved landscape.

Funded by DfE, AoC in partnership with Holex, will deliver a capability support programme by creating and facilitating a series of webinars and resources, and a map of relevant stakeholders and strategies in supporting the to address priority delivery challenges. The current aims of the capability support programme are:
- Increase the reach of Multiply provision particularly within employers and hard to reach cohorts.
- Encourage progression among Multiply learners into work or further training, particularly towards maths qualifications where appropriate.
- Drive up awareness of Multiply among key local and national organisations.
- Foster collaboration among a wide range of providers and local organisations to improve the efficacy and reach of Multiply provision, including encouraging engagement with the randomised control trials that will test new and existing approaches to improving adult numeracy.
- Share and help to embed best practice in the Multiply programme.
Multiply resources
Below are some top tip resources on the most common challenges providers have faced across the programme. In each resource you will find some best practice examples shared from different providers across the country.
