Governor
Salary: Non-Remunerated
Organisation: Varndean College
Location: Brighton and Hove
Closing Date: 14 Jun 2026
Varndean College is a successful sixth form college offering exceptional education, based in the vibrant city of Brighton and Hove. A highly inclusive institute that welcomes young people and adults from near and far, from local schools and from international communities, we enjoy a lively and cosmopolitan environment. With an impressive choice of programmes, including A levels, vocational programmes and the acclaimed International Baccalaureate, along with a supportive, harmonious environment, we ensure that every student is given the best opportunity to thrive and reach their highest potential.
The college has a distinguished record of achievement over many years and was again rated as Good in our most recent Ofsted inspection in 2024. Due to our strong reputation and positive outcomes, our student numbers have continued to grow, with an additional 230 16 to 18-year old students this year. We currently have a Good financial health grade and we enjoy an impressive campus close to Brighton city centre, with exciting developments for our estate in the foreseeable future.
We are seeking several new Governors to join the college Corporation (Governing Body) to play a role in taking our college even further forwards. Governors make an important contribution to the college and, therefore, to the students by ensuring that it is well run by our Executive Leadership Team and that our vision and policies are appropriate to fulfil our aspiration of transforming lives through exceptional education. The focus of the Corporation’s attention is on strategy and it acts as a decision making body.
We are especially keen to attract individuals with a background in finance and accountancy (from any sector), who would like to help us to shape the future of our college. In return you will work with a great team of aspirational people and gain insight into a range of strategic aspects, while making a positive impact on our students, communities and the wider Brighton and Hove economy. Previous Governor experience is not required as you will benefit from a well-supported induction and training programme.
Key Dates to Note:
Closing date for applications is: Sunday 14 June 2026
