The Carers and Enterprise Company careers education and guidance award - Sunderland College Case Study

A strategic approach to careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG), underpinned by Good Career Benchmarks enables Sunderland College’s students to experience ‘careers in action’.

Visionary leadership has strengthened our careers provision, facilitated the rapid progress in fully meeting 7 out of the 8 Gatsby Benchmarks and transformed work-readiness and work experience via extended encounters with employers and employees, well beyond the traditional guest speakers and workplace visits.

Our whole college approach to CEIAG has enabled us to realise measurable improvements such as overall increases in achievement of 4.3%, positive destinations 2.4%, 14% increase in students applying to university by the UCAS deadline and a 6.7% increase in those progressing to employment and Apprenticeships.

We continually drive innovation through best practice models such as the pre-entry activity focused on specific sectors, identifying interested students and developing targeted interventions to support informed career choices. As lead college in the region’s Careers Hub, influencing careers provision both regionally and nationally, we can build on this success.

Our strategic approach to CEIAG runs throughout the student journey and has led to measurable improvements, raised aspirations and improved positive progression.
