The Careers and Enterprise Company careers education and guidance award - Westminster Kingsway College Case Study

The Early Careers Support Programme has enabled 100 ambitious students to get the support and skills they need to apply for competitive degree and higher apprenticeships.

Degree apprenticeships are revolutionising early careers programmes in competitive industries. Using the best of careers advice and education, our programme reaches out to young people who are seeking alternatives to traditional routes and student debt, while still achieving higher education. We drew on graduate job preparation to accelerate students’ readiness.

Students have benefitted from increased confidence with rigorous application processes which will have lasting impact throughout their early careers. They gained skills in multiple-stage application processes including skype and group interviews, plus intensive 1:1 support. Seven students gained offers, including from Goldman Sachs, BT and Expedia, some receiving multiple offers.

The programme has developed partnerships, such as with Uptree (employer networking platform) which has further reaching impacts for all students’ employer engagement. At Westminster Kingsway College putting employer encounters at the heart of all employability programmes, has expanded. We’re constantly learning from the programme in order to help students understand the changing job market.

In just its first year, our Early Careers Support Programme has helped a group of ambitious students to realise their dreams and exceed their expectations.
