The Careers and Enterprise Company careers education and guidance award - Leicester College Case Study

Leicester College successfully trialled and implemented two innovative, highly engaging careers education programmes. The programmes, delivered in conjunction with employers have already engaged 700 students.

Bespoke to students’ areas of study and career aspirations, programmes include: skills development- practical employability activities; employer encounters- industry experiences, employer-led talks and live projects; specialist careers advisors disseminating LMI; and students undertaking progression route activities to enable informed decisions on further learning, apprenticeships or employment

Over 40 employers from a range of sectors have supported our World of Work and STEAM Industrial Cadets Programmes. Following evaluation, nearly all participating students feel more prepared for employment and are more confident with their future learning choices. Many have stated they found the programme enjoyable and interactive.

In 2018/19, we will engage 1,000 students through 26 WOW and Industrial Cadets Programmes. Additional measures will be implemented to assess destination impact i.e. progression into further learning, independent work placements and paid work. LMI student aspiration analysis will enable us to engage with relevant new employers.

From a small trial programme to successful swift cross-college implementation, both programmes offer students the opportunity to gain an experience which enables informed career decisions.
