Work in Parliament

Our pubic affairs team leads AoC’s political influencing which aims to strengthen the voice, reputation and thinking about colleges amongst key decision-makers and influencers, in order to maximise the role they play for people, employers and communities.

We:

  • Work to ensure that MPs and peers are informed about the key issues impacting on colleges.
  • Work with MPs and peers to look at ways in which the education and skills system can be improved, to better support people, employers and communities.
  • Use key parliamentary tools to raise these key issues – including through parliamentary debates, written and oral questions and through organising parliamentary events.
  • Engage with select committees – through written evidence, and appearing before committees.
  • Act as the Secretariat for the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Further Education and Lifelong Learning.

In addition, we ensure that college leaders are informed about key political events and opportunities, and we support them in their engagements with their local MP(s) and other elected representatives – through providing briefings, resources and wider guidance.
