Support for Students Award - Cambridge Regional College Case Study

Cambridge Regional College has successful designed innovative and appropriate wraparound support for Looked after Children (LAC), Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children and Care Leavers to enhance their retention, achievement and enable them to secure great careers.

Wraparound support for LAC now includes early enrolments, corporate parenting events, bespoke taster sessions and individual career development plans. CRC has also tackled a hidden but prevalent barrier for LAC whereby past experiences and immigration statuses, can often prevent access to crucial work related opportunities.

LAC are provided with 1:1 support throughout their journey either from the designated LAC Careers Advisor or LAC Coordinator and such interactions enable students to explore their options enabling them to succeed and leave CRC equipped with the skills employers demand.

Notable successes include a predicted 19% rise in achievement rates and LAC learners praising CRC publicly on being a welcoming, safe and inclusive environment where they feel supported and challenged to make the most of their learning opportunities. The success of the approach has also been applauded by the MP for Cambridge.

CRC is committed to transforming the lives of every student and ensuring that those who have some of the biggest barriers to overcome are supported to achieve.
