The Workers' Educational Association (WEA) is a charitable organisation with a legacy of providing a wealth of meaningful education, employability support and enrichment opportunities for adult learners, working with communities across England and Scotland. Founded in 1903, we are the UK’s largest voluntary sector provider of adult education, with a £30m turnover and provision across nine regions. WEA has a significant impact on communities and individual lives, supporting a wide demographic including those from social, economic and educationally disadvantaged backgrounds.

Financially strong and with a “good” Ofsted grade, we successfully uphold our charitable purpose with efficient, sustainable operations and with impactful teaching which gets to the heart of local priorities. We are well regarded by key sector stakeholders and we are innovative in embracing new opportunities and ways of working, with a progressive digital transformation currently underway. Our organisational culture is extremely strong, with passionate staff and IIP Silver accreditation.

Following a recent restructure, we currently have three Head of Region vacancies, leading on our Midlands, South East and South West regions respectively. These roles present a fantastic opportunity to strategically lead and develop a region’s educational activities, ensuring they meet internal and external quality standards, and provide a fantastic student experience. You will develop and manage the delivery of the regional curriculum and business plans, ensuring that the WEA offer is relevant and impactful for each area. The post holders will also oversee financial, governance, human and physical resources across their region, with a strong emphasis on building impactful strategic stakeholder relationships and championing a vibrant educational movement.

Our successful candidates will have experience of leading successful educational programmes, with a sound understanding of the needs of adult learners. Experience of developing coherent business plans and management of externally funded contracts are of key importance, as is the ability to work collaboratively and proactively with a range of stakeholders and to lead and develop a successful team.
