Colleges Week 2019
A year on from the first Colleges Week and we have hugely increased the profile and understanding of what colleges do, why they are important and why they need proper investment; however we are yet to see that materialise into funding.
With a new Prime Minister, a highly anticipated Spending Review, and a possible General Election on the horizon - now is the time to ramp up the campaign noise to remind Government that people love their colleges and want to see them funded properly.
We are confident that the majority of Government now agree that colleges need more funding so this year we need to consolidate our newfound support and move the conversation onto when and how much.
Colleges Week 2019 is confirmed for 14 to 18 October with a national, Parliamentary day on Wednesday 16 October. It may seem like a while away but, with Summer fast approaching, now is the time to get together with union and student representatives to think about what activities you could plan or, if you already have events in the diary, what you could potentially rebadge as part of the week. Please also think about getting in touch with your college neighbours to talk about whether there is something you could do regionally and to make sure everyone is as excited and enthusiastic about this year’s campaign as you are.
The AoC Campaigns Team are busy updating plans and working on this year’s resources – more in next week’s briefing.
