Edge Hill University survey

A recent survey conducted by Edge Hill University has shown the levels of mental illness among the sport and physical activity workforce. The survey was completed by 1201 people working in a variety of different roles in sport, including education.
57% of those surveyed have experienced a mental illness. Rates of mental illness were highest among grassroots and community sport (59%) and women aged 16-24 (70%).
The questions about support for mental health show that there is still lots of work to do to break the stigma with only 46% of respondents feeling confident to speak to others in their organisation about mental health.
The full results can be found on the Edge Hill website. Mental Health Awareness Week is taking place 13-19 May as is a good opportunity to talk about mental health with students who are going to be the future sport and physical activity workforce.
