AoC Sport cancels National Championships and suspends all competitions due to coronavirus
16th March 2020
Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, we have taken the difficult decision to cancel the upcoming National Championships in order to protect the health, safety and wellbeing of all involved. The event, due to take place 24-26 April, would have included more than 2,000 college students, staff and volunteers from across the country.
Dean Hardman, AoC Director of Sport and Student Experience said: “We are extremely disappointed to cancel the National Championships but the Public Health guidelines and the personal safety of all participants and staff is paramount.
"This decision has not been taken lightly and we would like to reassure colleges that we have done everything we can to lessen the impact -including incurring the costs for the cancellation so that colleges have one less thing to worry about.”
We can confirm that colleges will not be invoiced by the University of Nottingham for the Championships.
In addition, following guidance from national governing bodies and the withdrawal of a number of colleges from all sporting activities, we are also suspending all AoC Sport competitions until after Easter when we will assess the situation again.
This will impact all leagues, cups and local development opportunities. We apologise for the inconvenience caused. Further updates will be communicated on the website and via email.
