Developing a Positive Attitude

One of the most difficult challenges when going through change is maintaining momentum amongst staff members. Motivation is not just a rah rah subject. In fact, personal motivation is exactly what’s needed when everything around you seems unstable.

Motivation is very closely linked to attitude. Your attitude is one of the first things people notice about you. Attitude is the foundation and support for everything that we do. In fact, one of the most valuable assets you can possess is a positive attitude towards your life; it is a key element to your personal and professional life.

Many researchers believe, and I wholeheartedly agree, that a positive attitude is not hereditary of a product of genetics, rather it is a quality acquired with proper development. There are many proven techniques to help us unravel the huge area of attitude that will explain why we do what we do. However, it isn’t how much you know about maintaining a positive attitude that’s important; it’s how well and how consistently you use that knowledge to make a difference in your everyday life.

Two big beliefs that cause a bad attitude during times of change:

  1. Believing that you’re the only person that is experiencing a tough time
  2. Believing that things can never be different

We can pretty much visualise any situation and without even thinking about it, we will colour in those situations with the beliefs that we have. The truth is, you’re probably not the only person going through a tough time and you can most certainly apply a different attitude to a circumstance at any time, it’s never too late. Becoming more aware of your own attitudes and reactions will help you to govern your emotions, thoughts and decision-making processes.

Our happiness cannot be centred on our circumstances. If you want to get the best out of yourself and others during challenge and change, then adopting a positive attitude will go a long way to setting you on the right path for success in everything that you do.
