Greg Fitzgerald was nominated by South Devon College where he studied a building studies course between 1982 and 1986. Greg has been Chief Executive of Galliford Try plc since 2003 and has been instrumental in the success of the group that saw it reach record profit levels in 2012, despite the tough economic climate.
Greg has over 25 years’ experience in the industry and founded his own housebuilding company, Midas Homes, in 1992, which was subsequently acquired by Galliford Try in 1997. Greg is now spearheading an exciting partnership between Galliford Try and South Devon College which will work closely together to maximise local educational, training and employment opportunities around the South Devon Link Road project, to bring benefits to local people and the economy.
On winning his award Greg said, “It makes me extremely proud to be recognised in this way and I’m delighted that I have been able to maintain my relationship with South Devon College for many years. Education is an important cornerstone for any career and I was fortunate to receive a great grounding in skills during my time at South Devon all those years ago. I hope those that taught me will take their own pride in my success and look forward to continuing to work with South Devon as we take forward our new University Technical College and hopefully equip the next generation of leaders in construction with the skills they need.”
